FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A few answers before the first serve.
Getting started with LibreTT? Here are the essentials about downloads, offline use, tournament workflows and keeping your records safe.
Is LibreTT really free?
Yes. LibreTT is free and open-source software under AGPL-3.0-or-later. There are no subscriptions, paid feature tiers or license activations. The $0 plans on the homepage are a playful way of saying that everyone gets the same application.
Do I need an account or internet connection?
No account is required to use LibreTT Desktop. Tournament management works locally and offline. You need internet access to download the application, visit this website or contact the community.
Which computers are supported?
Desktop downloads are available for Windows x64, macOS Apple Silicon ARM64 and Intel x64, and Linux x64 as DEB or AppImage. Choose your installer on the Download page.
Is the desktop application ready for my tournament?
The current public desktop release is an early beta. Test your full workflow before an event, make backups and keep a parallel record for your first tournament. Some features in the documentation may require a newer build than the first public beta.
Why does my operating system warn about the installer?
The desktop beta is unsigned on Windows and not notarized on macOS. The installation guide explains the expected prompts. Check that you downloaded from LibreTT or the linked GitHub release. Do not bypass warnings that identify malware.
What kinds of competitions can I run?
Create singles or doubles categories with direct knockout or groups followed by knockout. Configure seeds, qualifiers, scoring rules, BYEs, lucky losers and third-place rules. The tournament guide walks through the process.
Can I manage arrivals and entry fees?
Yes. Confirm arrivals in Registrations, then use the tournament Cash desk to record entry-fee payments and refunds. Both members of a doubles pair need their arrival confirmed.
Can I correct a result or reopen a completed tournament?
Yes. Edit the match result; changes that affect later matches can require clearing dependent results after confirmation. For a completed tournament, reopen it in Overview, then reopen the category in Results before making corrections. Complete both again afterwards.
Where are my records stored?
Desktop keeps its database on your computer. Your tournament records are not automatically published to librett.org. You control any backups, exports or files you choose to share.
How do backups and updates work?
Use Backups to create and export a copy, and keep a copy on another device. Back up before updating. Restoring a backup replaces the entire application database, including all tournaments; it is not a single-tournament import.
Is LibreTT for WordPress the same as Desktop?
They are separate projects. Desktop runs locally on your computer; the WordPress plugin manages and publishes competitions on a WordPress website. The plugin ZIP and some internal names still use the former name OpenTT. See About LibreTT for the project overview.
Can I use the Player Registry or sync between computers?
Player Registry is in early implementation and is not a released public service. Public profiles, portable records and one-way imports into Desktop are planned. Do not rely on registry integration or live synchronization for your event.
Still have a question?
Read the documentation or visit Support. For a bug report, include your operating system, application version and steps to reproduce it. Use sample data and remove private player information from screenshots.
